Recyclable Waste Transfer Station Tour

Participants toured a metal, glass, and plastic recycling facility on the Sunset Park waterfront, watching curbside recyclables move through the sorting process — magnets, optical sorters, and workers on the line separating material by type — before being baled for shipment. Facility staff also explained why the site was built on the water, and how barges cut down on truck traffic through the neighborhood.
