Our Mission

The Tristate Infrastructure Observatory believes that the systems powering everyday life โ€” electricity, shipping, transportation, and clean water โ€” are more interesting, and more important, than most people realize. Our mission is to make that infrastructure visible by organizing public tours led by the people who design, build, and operate it.

How We Started

The Observatory was founded by a small group of engineers and educators who wanted to share their enthusiasm for infrastructure with the public. What began as informal walking tours of local bridges has grown into a nonprofit organizing dozens of tours a year, in partnership with utilities, port authorities, and transit agencies across the region.

Our Team

We’re a volunteer-driven nonprofit made up of engineers, urban planners, educators, and infrastructure enthusiasts. If you’re interested in volunteering, leading a tour, or partnering with us, we’d love to hear from you โ€” visit our Contact page to get in touch.
